Affirm the Work That We Do
Surprise us with love at daybreak;
then we’ll skip and dance all the day long.
Make up for the bad times with some good times;
we’ve seen enough evil to last a lifetime.
Let your servants see what you’re best at -
the ways you rule and bless your children.
And let the loveliness of our Lord, our God, rest on us,
confirming the work that we do.
Oh, yes. Affirm the work that we do! Psalm 90:14-17
The SPARK Youth Outreach Initiative is tasked with assessing the needs of the youth of the St. Louis Park community. Currently volunteers have been trained and are conducting interviews. We continue to train more interviewers.
A few updates from the month of February …
Engaging in other collaborative efforts …
February brought the culmination of four other metro area congregations working towards hosting a 30 Hour Famine event. This month also begins the efforts of seven congregations collaborating to offer a Summer Stretch experience for youth in the West Metro. The 30 Hour Famine included 75 participants and volunteers from Lutheran churches in st. Louis Park, Columbia Heights and st. Paul who fasted for 30 Hours, raised over $4,000 for Haiti relief work, packaged several thousands of meals for FMSC and made sandwiches for over 1,250 homeless in the Twin Cities. The Summer Stretch planning, just underway, represents congregations from both the Lutheran and United Methodist backgrounds and communities in st. Louis Park, Hopkins, Edina, Minnetonka and North Minneapolis. We are working to create a seven- week service learning and fellowship experience over the summer for 6th-9th graders.
